The St. Nicholas Choir is affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM), an international organization.The RSCM is designed to provide musical training, including learning the music in the hymnal and choral anthems, as well as learning to read music and sight singing.Additionally, each rehearsal includes Christian education (instruction in the Church Year, the Book of Common Prayer, the Hymnal 1982 and liturgy). The RSCM has as its motto the words of St. Paul, “I will sing with the spirit and with the understanding also.”This organization supports a worldwide network of 9,000 churches, schools and individuals, all committed to the best use of music in worship possible.St. Paul’s Church is a proud affiliate of the RSCM. The RSCM training scheme is graded, according to the Voice for Life curriculum.At the completion of each level, a chorister is awarded a medal on a colored ribbon worn with his or her vestments.There are four levels in the curriculum. The St. Nicholas Choir sings traditional Anglican music and World music, Gospel music and Spirituals.It sings anthems alone and with the St. Paul Choir.Rehearsals are Fridays, 4:30 to 6:00 pm, September through June.The choir sings each Sunday at the 10:30 AM Eucharist, as well as Advent Lessons & Carols, Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Evensong and other special occasions. Youth (girls and boys), grades three and older, are welcome.The St. Nicholas Choir is open to children from the community who like to sing and can meet the expectations of membership.For more information regarding this choir, please contact Patrick Campbell, director of music.
